Obedience to God and the Power of Consistency

When we think about our walk with God, we often imagine grand gestures and big commitments. We envision ourselves bursting forth in acts of faith that define our lives. Yet, what we often overlook are the small, daily actions that require just as much devotion. The struggle to obey God in the little things - like writing a daily blog, for me, offers profound lessons on consistency.

The Weight of Small Things

I have been dealing with a lot of change and most of it has been self-inflicted and life changing to say the least, and this has challenged how I see things a lot more. At the beginning of this year I asked God for a word for the year, and one thing about God, he will answer, and most times it will not make the slightest bit of sense but hey, that's just how He works. And when He does speak, God speaks to us even in these small moments of confusion and doubt.

The Oxford Dictionary defines "consistency" as "the quality of always behaving or performing in a similar way." In a world that often celebrates spectacle over stability, the value of being consistent is underrated. God calls us to be consistent not just in our big acts, but in our daily decisions. It’s in these mundane moments that He forms our character and deepens our relationship with Him.

A Word for the Year: Consistency

Every year, I seek God for a guiding word—a single word to focus my spiritual journey. This year, I was struck by the word “consistency.” As a Type A person with ADHD, I have always relied heavily on routines to maintain my focus. However, this year, I’ve found myself challenged in ways I hadn't anticipated, already kuningi.

For many of us, routines may seem like a cage. We resist the notion of being confined to a strict schedule. Yet, within the bounds of routine lies a space for growth. Consistency asks us to dig deeper. It stretches us to maintain our commitments amid noise and distraction. Every time I sit down to journal, I remind myself of that word. Writing this blog consistently has become an act of obedience, a way to honor God in the small things.

The Struggle of Routine

Creating a routine isn't just about having a plan. For those of us with ADHD, it can feel like fighting against a current. Staying consistent in daily tasks requires intentional effort. I have discovered that the more I lean into God's grace, the easier it becomes. I start each day with prayer, asking God for help. I seek wisdom in navigating distractions that threaten to derail my focus.

While there are days when my productivity falters, I remind myself that consistency doesn't equate to perfection. (Something I have struggled with for some time - perfectionsim) It means being willing to show up, even when it feels hard. This has taught me another valuable lesson: small investments can yield large returns. Each blog post, each prayer, each moment spent seeking God builds up my spiritual maturity piece by piece.

The Fruits of Faithfulness

There’s something beautifully transformative in committing to small daily tasks. Each time I obey God in my writing, I strengthen my faith and trust in Him. I see my thoughts crystallize, my voice deepen. I’m encouraged knowing that consistency in my writing doesn’t just bless my own growth; it can bless others.

Whether it’s a blog post, a phone call to a friend, or a prayer for someone in need, every act of consistency can trigger a ripple effect. God uses these small acts to remind us of His faithfulness. So, as I commit to writing daily, I am not just fulfilling a task. I am partnering with God in sharing His love and truth.

Being consistent has spiritual weight. It builds resilience. It teaches patience. Most importantly, it prepares my heart for bigger responsibilities in the future. While I might not see immediate results, I trust in God's timing. Each act of obedience contributes toward a deeper understanding of His will for my life.

Moving Forward with Purpose

As I navigate this year filled with lessons in consistency, I lean into the truth that obedience doesn’t have to be daunting. Whether it's a blog, a chore, or a quiet moment with God, every small commitment matters. I encourage you to ask God for a word that resonates with where you are in your faith journey. What is He asking of you?

Consider committing to one small thing this week. Perhaps it’s a daily devotion, a phone call to a loved one, or even journaling like I do. Let it be your guiding light, something that calls you back each day to consistency. The beauty lies not just in the act itself but in your willingness to submit to God's promptings.

The Call to Obedience

As this year unfolds, I am reminded that obedience to God often starts small, in the quiet corners of our days. Consistency allows us to cultivate a heart ready to follow His lead. By choosing faithfulness in the mundane, we reflect His love to a world waiting for His light.

As we embrace this journey together, remember that your small acts of obedience do not go unnoticed by God. Embrace the power of consistency, and watch how He transforms you from the inside out. Here’s to a commitment not just with words but with actions, as we learn to obey God in every aspect of our lives. Let’s welcome this challenge and grow deeper in our faith!

With all my Love
