Experiencing Holy Week: Rediscovering the Power of the Cross and the Love of Christ
Easter often comes and goes with a familiar rhythm. We celebrate Resurrection Sunday with joy, yet sometimes the deeper journey through Holy Week feels like a distant story, something we observe rather than fully live. I discovered that by intentionally experiencing each day of Holy Week as the original followers of Jesus did, my personal walk with God transformed. This devotional practice brought new meaning to Easter and helped me grasp the profound love and sacrifice behind the cross. I highly recommend getting on Lectio 365. It was such a breath of fresh air as my devotional for this Holy Week.

Walking Through Holy Week Day by Day
When I first started researching the events of Holy Week, I realized how much I had been rushing to Resurrection Sunday without fully appreciating the days leading up to it. Each day holds a unique story and spiritual lesson that deepens our understanding of Jesus’ sacrifice and love.
Palm Sunday marks Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. The crowds welcomed Him with palm branches, yet many didn’t grasp the full significance of who He was.
Monday to Wednesday reveal Jesus teaching in the temple, confronting religious leaders, and preparing His disciples for what was to come.
Maundy Thursday brings the Last Supper, where Jesus washed His disciples’ feet and gave them a new commandment to love one another.
Good Friday is the darkest day, where Jesus endured unimaginable pain and separation from the Father, bearing the weight of our sins.
By reflecting on these days, I began to feel more connected to the story, not just as an observer but as someone invited into the heart of God’s plan.
The Power of Good Friday in Everyday Life
Good Friday struck me deeply. The thought of Jesus, the Son of God, experiencing such agony and feeling the absence of His Father during His darkest hour is overwhelming. It made me realize how precious our relationship with God is. We have the privilege of His presence every moment, yet we often take it for granted.
This day reminds me that no matter how hard life gets, or how many ups and downs I face, I am never truly alone. Jesus’ sacrifice shows that He understands pain and heartache intimately. It also reveals the incredible price He paid so we could be restored to right standing with God.
Resurrection Sunday: More Than an Expected Event
Easter Sunday is often celebrated with joy and hope, but sometimes it becomes routine. We expect Jesus to rise, which is good, but this expectation can dull the awe and power of the resurrection. When I experienced Holy Week fully, Resurrection Sunday became a powerful climax, a victory that changed everything.
The resurrection is not just a historical event; it is the foundation of our freedom and new life in Christ. It reminds me that no matter how many times I fall short, God’s grace is bigger. Life’s challenges don’t define me because Jesus has already won the ultimate victory.

How This Journey Changed My Everyday Life
Since diving into the meaning of each day in Holy Week, I’ve noticed a shift in how I live my faith daily. Instead of rushing through Easter, I now pause to reflect and pray, making it a devotional time that strengthens my relationship with God. This practice has helped me find peace amid the ups and downs I’ve faced recently.
I want to be consistent in this journey, so I’ve committed to sharing my reflections twice a week. To keep myself accountable and hopefully encourage others, I started an Instagram page called realconvosrealGod. It’s funny to think of myself as an influencer; which I am not, but I believe real conversations about faith are needed now more than ever.
Why We Need to Remember the Story Fully
Too often, we approach Easter from the outside, as spectators of a story that happened long ago. But this story was written for us. Jesus’ death and resurrection were meant to bring us back into a loving relationship with God. When we take time to experience Holy Week fully, we realize how deeply loved we are.
The cross is not just a symbol; it is the power that breaks chains and brings freedom. The resurrection is not just a celebration; it is the promise that life with God is eternal and victorious. This awareness changes how we live every day.
Practical Ways to Experience Holy Week
If you want to deepen your Easter experience, here are some simple ways to engage with Holy Week:
Read the Gospel accounts of each day slowly and prayerfully.
Journal your thoughts and prayers as you reflect on Jesus’ journey.
Attend or watch devotional services that focus on Holy Week.
Set aside quiet moments to meditate on the significance of the cross and resurrection.
Share your reflections with friends or online communities to encourage others.
These practices can help make Easter more than a single day of celebration but a season of transformation.
Easter is a powerful reminder that we cannot live our faith in isolation. Jesus’ journey through Holy Week invites us into a story of love, sacrifice, and victory that shapes our everyday life. By experiencing each day as those first followers did, we open ourselves to a deeper connection with God and a renewed sense of hope.
I encourage you to take this journey with me. Let’s rediscover the power of the cross and the overwhelming love of Christ together. Whether through quiet devotion or real conversations on social media, we can grow stronger in faith and live with the freedom Jesus won for us.
All my love
Zo xx
